Powder coating is a highly durable type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is that the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form.
Some of the more common types of powder are made of polyester, urethane, epoxy and acrylics. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a finish that is more durable than conventional paint. Depending on the type of powder being used, it may also have excellent resistance to salt, chemicals and ultraviolet light.
Powder coating is a very economical alternative to liquid based paint applications. Common metal items can be powder coated for far less than what traditional paint would cost. The end user enjoys the added benefit of a durable, baked on finish that will withstand scratching, peeling and is far superior than traditional paint in durability. There are 1000’s of colors available to match to paint or to your specifications. It is much easier to match your paint to the existing powder color choices. Unlike paint, powder can not be easily mixed to change colors. Custom colors can be manufactured, however this process can add substantially to the cost of the project.
Unless specific instructions are provided for your project, we will tape, plug and or cap threads and holes. Any areas that need to be powder free will be masked with a high temperature heat tape.
The powder coating process is extremely friendly to the environment.
Only very small amounts of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are introduced into the contained application environment. Unlike liquid paints, there are no hazardous chemical solvents involved and no excess paint or residue to disposal of.
Powder Coating is a green way to finish and protect your products.
Clear powder coating serves the same purpose as clear paint. It protects the underlying surface and will add depth and luster to the finished product. Clear coat is often applied as a second coat over existing powder. Clear coating will increase resistance to UV and corrosion over the life of the product.
